How to apply for the SEFP

The main application route for the SEFP for Home (UK/EU) students is through the online system of the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). International students may also apply through UCAS, but are generally recommended to apply directly to Queen Mary (see below). When submitting an application via UCAS you need to apply for the "Science and Engineering Foundation Programme", but you must also use the appropriate "course code" to indicate the type of degree course which you wish to progress after completing the foundation year (see list below). You should aim to complete your application by the normal UCAS closing date, typically 30 June, but if there are still places remaining on the SEFP, then you can also apply through the Clearing scheme in July and August.

Important: you are advised to contact the relevant QMUL academic department, in advance of submitting your application, for up-to-date information relating to their specific entry requirements for the SEFP.

Notes:

  1. 4-year programmes consist of the foundation year plus a further 3-year period of study leading to a BSc or BEng degree (the normal option).
  2. 5-year programmes consist of the foundation year plus a further 4-year period of study leading to a MSci or MEng degree.
  3. if you are uncertain which code to use, then check the list of Degree Programmes available to SEFP Students to identify the appropriate SEFP code, which depends upon both the overall duration and the academic department which runs the particular degree in which you are interested. For example,
     - for the SEFP leading to BSc Biomedical Sciences, use CCX1
     - for the SEFP leading to BEng Audio Systems Engineering, use HHX6

Alternative application method (for International students only).

International students are generally advised to apply directly to Queen Mary. Make sure that you have read about the various options available to you when applying as an international student (check options now).

For more information on this alternative application method for international students see the: International SEFP website.
