SCIENCE  &  ENGINEERING
FOUNDATION PROGRAMME

The Science and Engineering Foundation Programme (SEFP) at Queen Mary is one of the longest established and most highly-regarded foundation programmes in the UK.

The foundation year of this programme is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to undertake undergraduate degrees in the fields of science and engineering.

Key Features

Students on the SEFP at Queen Mary benefit from:

  • studying at a campus university, located with easy reach of all London's main attractions, yet still having a wide-range of modern accommodation located on an attractive campus

  • a teaching programme which is based on the main campus, permitting students to have full-access to all the normal student facilities (academic, welfare, IT, library, social, sport  etc.)

  • experienced and enthusiastic teaching staff, many of whom are also involved in teaching other undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Queen Mary

  • the opportunity to proceed onto degrees in a very wide range of subjects including: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Environmental Science, Materials Science, Mathematics and Physics (see link below for more details).

Applying through UCAS

All UK/EU students must apply through UCAS.  If you apply through UCAS, the SEFP is an integrated programme which combines a foundation year with a traditional university degree programme.  After successfully completing the SEFP foundation year, you progress onto one of the main degree programmes offered at Queen Mary, University of London. The SEFP will therefore typically lead to the award of a University of London Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree after four years of study, or University of London MSci/MEng degrees after five years of study.

Applying directly to Queen Mary
(for International Students only)

International students (from outside the European Union) may apply directly to Queen Mary. Direct applicants may either apply for the same integrated programmes offered via UCAS, or alternatively may apply for the International SEFP (ISEFP), which is a discrete foundation programme of 7-10 month duration, offering a route to higher education in the UK. Students admitted onto the ISEFP may then either apply to continue their studies on a degree programme at Queen Mary, or apply for admission to another university elsewhere in the UK. Both options offer a choice of September or January start-dates.
